SOIFER 

Viktor Aleksandrovich

Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Doctor of Science (Engineering), Professor, President, Samara State Aerospace University, Scientific Adviser, Image Processing Systems Institute of RAS – Branch of the FSRC “Crystallography and Photonics” RAS, Samara

 

Viktor Aleksandrovich Soifer was born on June 18, 1945, in Kuybyshev. In 1968 he graduated from the Samara State Aerospace University. In 1971 he passed Ph.D. defense, and in 1979 passed a doctoral thesis. 

In 1968–1971 V. A. Soifer was a Junior Researcher at the Samara State Aerospace University; in 1971 he became a Senior Researcher; in 1971–1973 he is an Assistant Professor; in 1973–1974 he is a Senior Lecturer; in 1974–1981 he is an Associate Professor; in 1975–1983 he is a Dean of the Informatics Department; in 1981–1982 he became a Professor.

Since 1982 to the present day Viktor Aleksandrovich Soifer is the Head of the Engineering Cybernetics Department at the Samara State Aerospace University. 

In 1988–2015 V. A. Soifer was a Director at the Image Processing Systems Institute of RAS, and since 2015 to the present day he is a Scientific Advisor. 

In 1990–2010 V. A. Soifer was a Deant at the Samara State Aerospace University and in 2010 he became a President of the University. 

V. A. Soifer is a specialist in Engineering Cybernetics and Information Theory by his doctoral thesis, and he is a specialist in Computer-based Optics and Image Processing by trade. His scientific school is considered to be the leading school for methods development of image processing and diffracting optical elements construction in Russia (RFBR grant 96-15-96026). 

V. A. Soifer is a full member of the Russian Academy of Engineering, the Russian Academy of Cosmonautics named after K. E. Tsiolkovsky and scientific councils of the Russian Acady of Sciences such as: Cybernetics, Optical Memory and Neural Networks, Holographics; a Member of the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE, USA), the International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR), Doctor Honoris Causa of the Dowling College (USA) and the Harbin Institute of Technology (China). In 1994 he was awarded a degree of a Soros Professor. 

V. A. Soifer was a Corresponding Member of Russian Academy of Sciences since 2000. In 2016 he became a Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

V. A. Soifer is an Honored Science Worker of the Russian Federation (1999), he was awarded the Russian Federation National Award for Science and Technology (1992), the Russian Federation Government Prize in Education (2010), in Science and Technology (2008), the Scopus Award Russia (2014).

Prof. Soifer has authored and co-authored more than 300 papers and received more than 50 patents.
